Clair “Pedro” Fertig, age 50, of Buffalo passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2011. He was born on January 27, 1961 in Hallock, MN, the son of Sheldon Sr. and Donna Mae (Holmgren) Fertig. He was welcomed into the family by brother Sheldon Jr.

Clair was blessed with one daughter, Amanda, that he loved dearly, and 2 granddaughters, Genevieve and Layla, that he cherished.

Clair enjoyed many things in his life. He loved spending time with family and friends. He was always willing to help others (though you never knew when he would get there, as his clock was different from everyone else). He loved fixing and tinkering on things, (nothing was junk to him) small engines, bikes, you name it, if it didn’t work he was willing to take a look. If you were getting rid of it, Clair would find a use for it. But he had no idea how to get his cell phone to work. He loved spending time in Canada, doing photography, and, as we all know… hated onions, loved animals, was unselfish, had no concept of time, was always late, (except to his meetings) loved coffee and chocolate, to him – that was a meal, loved making people happy, always checked in to make sure others were ok, had a huge heart , was very sentimental, which is the reason nothing ever left his possession, was sincere and had a tender touch. Clair had been sober for over 14 years, one of his greatest battles, and he was very proud of this achievement. Though the years before he gained control had many heartaches, Clair made amends and went on to help others. By telling of his battle, Clair changed the lives of many, helped to save a few and gained many close friends. He spent countless hours mentoring others, speaking at meetings or just being by your side. Helping others overcome their battle became one of Clair’s passions, and having lived it himself, he was very compassionate to those lives he touched and helped.

Clair was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Clair is survived by daughter, Amanda Finneman of Rockford; granddaughters, Genevieve and Layla, sisters, Michele (Daryl) Cardinal of Monticello; Jonay (Kevin) Krone of Monticello; sister-in-law Sharon Fertig of Buffalo; nieces and nephews, Sheldon Fertig III of Buffalo; Shane (Kristina) Fertig of Maple Lake; Devin Krone of Monticello; Ashley Cardinal of Monticello; Jacob Krone of Monticello; Jeremey Cardinal of Monticello and Cammey Cardinal of Monticello. Aunts, uncles, other family and friends.

Clair was proceeded in death by mother, Donna Mae Fertig; brother, Sheldon Fertig Jr.; father, Sheldon Fertig Sr. and grandparents.

Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to the family.

Funeral Service held Friday December 30, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo, 12PM with Gathering of friends and family at 9 AM at the Church.

The Peterson Chapel of Buffalo assisted the family with arrangements.
