Chad Michael Coleman, age 37, of Otsego, passed away unexpectedly Monday, November 28, 2011.

He was born June 26, 1974 in Minneapolis, the son of Don and Marlene (Oelke) Coleman. He lived in the Corcoran area before moving to Otsego in 1999.

Chad was a loving husband and a fantastic father who loved his children deeply. He was the best son and brother who had a big heart, beautiful smile and a calming, non-judgmental way about him. He loved anything to do with nature and outdoor sports, especially hunting, fishing and spearing. He also made spearing decoys and won awards for his abilities. He was extremely talented with tools and worked as a tool and die maker. He also built his house along with his father. Recently, he built his children a playhouse that was an exact model of their house. He was always willing to listen to anyone and had a unique ability to speak to strangers as if he always knew them.

He is survived by his wife, Heather (Dyreson) Coleman of Otsego; children: Mitchell age 8, Ashlynn age 6, and Morgan age 2; parents, Don and Marlene Coleman of Corcoran; sister, Brenda (Andy) Kane of Indianola, IA; father-in-law, Bernie (Denise) Dyreson of Delano; maternal grandmother, Marie Oelke of Perham; sister-in-law, Hilary Dyreson (Nate Schlosser) of Loretto; brother-in-law, Shane Dyreson (Andrea Jennings) of Buffalo. Also survived by many other relatives and friends.

Chad was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Debbie (Sersch) Rice of Howard Lake and his best friend and companion, his dog, Lucky.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the Peterson Chapel of St. Michael-Albertville, 300 Main Street North, St. Michael. Visitation will be held Saturday afternoon at the funeral home from 2:00pm until the time of service.

    Heather,
I am so sorry for your loss. Chad’s smiling face will be missed by many but most of his family!!
I will always remember his smile and his elbow jab anytime he was sitting next to me, usually giving me crap about something!
You and the kids are in my prayers.

    Take care,
    Dana, Pete and Bryce

With a deep sense of disbelief did we, Chad’s work colleagues, learn of this news. With 14 years of service he held an important role within our organization. Words can’t describe how our hearts go out to Heather, Mitchell, Ashlynn, Morgan, Don, Marlene, Brenda and the rest of the family at this massive loss. You have our deepest condolences and support at this grave time. We pray for you all that you get the strength to deal with and get through this time of great loss. All our thoughts and prayers are with you.

    Heather and family,
I was saddened to hear about Chad. I have worked at the Farmers State Bank of Hamel for 20+ years and knew Chad well as I saw him every Friday come in with a smile on his face. He loved talking about the kids and of course fishing. (He also loved the little candy dish at the front desk and it was the first place he went to when he walked in!) We are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Heather, kids and all the Coleman Family; I am so very sorry for your loss. I cannot even imagine what you are going through. Chad will be missed as we always enjoyed his visits. He would ride down on the four wheeler with one of the kids or just stop in and sit and visit. Steve, the kids and I always enjoyed that. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you all.

    Dear Heather, children, Brenda, Don and Marlene;
I can not ease your aching heart,
    Nor take your pain away,
But let me stay and take your hand,
    And walk with you today.

I’ll listen when you need to talk,
    I’ll wipe away your tears,
I’ll share your worries when they come,
I’ll help you face your fears.

I am here and I will stand by you,
So take my hand when you need to,
And live just one day at a time.

    Your not alone,
    I’ll go that extra mile,
And when your grief is easier,
I’ll help you learn to smile again.

My thoughts, prayers and love are always with you.

    Love Uncle and Brother Jim

I am so sorry to learn of this loss of life. We may have seen each other in passing, but I did not know Chad. Tonight, this tragedy was revealed to a small group of people that I was part of. The individual who informed us exhibited enormous love for Chad, Heather, and their children. Her emotions were abundant and overwhelming. As hard as I can only imagine it to be, she fought to contain herself, and her words had a resounding weight on me and the rest of the group. Condolences are the only thing harder to take than a compliment; and condolences from a stranger may be inappropriate at this time. I don’t know. If taken as such, I somberly apologize for disruption and please forgive me. I’m writing this to you because I sympathize with your agony and sudden confusion, as the times I have lost those close to me have paralleled subsequent feelings. If your family needs anything that I can help with, please ask. My daughter, Olivia, attends Mrs. Kilber’s kindergarten class with Ashlynn. Tonight, Olivia and I talked about some of the challenges. This weekend Olivia wants to make something nice for Ashlynn.

After being introduced to First Avenue by Marc Pijoan one summer in 1990, Chad Coleman, Dave Pattison and I went on to see 20 different shows over the next two years.
There are only a few times in your life that you can say really changed who you are. Those last two years of high school had a big impact on my life. We did everything together: saw each other every day in school, went to each other’s houses after school, and went to see all kinds of bands at First Avenue.
I really hated high school for a variety of reasons. What made it bearable? Chad Coleman and all those great times we had together. I will be forever grateful.

My sympathy goes to out to you, Heather, your children, Chad’s parents and sister, and all of his family and friends. I remember Chad fondly. After years of having a locker near him, I just remember how he was always nice and kind. I am so very sorry to hear of his passing. It is hard to understand why such a young and caring man had to leave you all. May you feel God’s strength and Chad’s memory forever.

Heather and family; Know that you, your children, and Chad are in so many prayers. Chad was a fun-loving guy with a kind heart when we were young, and it’s obvious that he retained those fine qualities throughout his life. I hadn’t seen him in years, but I’m sure that had we run into each other, it would have been all smiles and jokes. That is how I’ll remember him. We’ll pray for you all.

Heather and the entire Coleman family; We are deeply saddened to hear of Chad’s passing. What wonderful memories we have of Chad. It was an honor to watch over Mitchell for daycare and to be able to have the opportunity to know Chad and your family. We will forever remember and embrace that contagious smile and laugh that Chad brought each day picking Mitchell up from daycare. May God bless you, Heather, and your family during this time and give you the strength to continue to be the best mom and person you have always been. Lots of love from the Sullivan’s.
