Visitation Information

Burton Peterson age 85 of Buffalo died Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at Park View Care Center.

Burton Lester Peterson was born on November 5, 1922 in Buffalo to Bernard A. and Selma (Soldin) Peterson. A 1941 graduate of Buffalo High School, Burt soon entered the Army to serve in the Asiatic Theater. When he returned, he worked for Spencer Kellogg Elevator. Not long after, he took over the family farm. For many years he drove a bus for the Buffalo school district. He retired as a rural mail carrier, which he also did for many years. On February 28, 1942, Burton married Lorna J. Larson in Minneapolis. They were blessed with five children. He was very involved in their activities, in school and 4-H projects. A hard worker, Burt’s free time was spent taking care of an eight unit apartment building and selling antiques. He very much enjoyed going with his wife to look at, and buy, antiques, then sell them at flea-markets. Burt enjoyed gardening, but particularly loved the tranquility of mowing his large lawn for hours. While his wife was living they traveled extensively together; Burt particularly enjoyed his over-seas vacation which included nations in Africa, to visit a missionary daughter. He was an active member of his church, Buffalo Covenant, and his main focus, especially in his later years, was to serve his Lord in every way possible. He was especially generous in his gifts to foreign missions and to missions for the poor in America.

Burton is survived by son, Dale (Rozanne “Rosie”) Peterson, Buffalo; daughters: Karen J. (Dabet) Ngandali, Buffalo, and Donna J. (Gary) Hopkins, Minneapolis; daughters-in-law: Carolyn Peterson-Gullings, Elk River, and Carol Peterson, Buffalo; sister-in-law, Ruth Peterson, Fullerton, California; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom he influenced profoundly with his deep faith and caring love. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorna, sons: Michael, and David (twin of Dale); and brother, Winton.

The funeral service is 2 P.M. Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at the Buffalo Covenant Church. The two hour visitation begins at the church at Noon. The burial is in Swedish Mission Cemetery.

Pastors Carl Taylor, Brett Schmidt, and Scott Peterson will officiate. The casket bearers will be: Joseph, Steven, and Keith Peterson, Ian Hopkins, Daniel Ngandali, and Gumanza Dabet. The soloist will be Dan Wickman, and Karen Wickman will accompany him.
