Betty Ione Wilkes, age 90 of Buffalo, MN, was called to her Heavenly home on Thursday, January 11, 2018. She was born October 1, 1927 in Cedarburg, WI, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Peters) Zeman.
A wonderful Christian woman, she was an example to us all of how faith and attitude can guide you through the toughest times. She leaves a legacy of strength and faith, which we all hold dear in our hearts. She will be greatly missed.
Betty Ione Zeman was united in marriage to Don Carroll Austin Wilkes. The two began their family in Spring Park, MN, where Don “Porky” was the chief of police.
Betty worked as a nursing assistant for many years at Twin Birch Nursing Home, now known as Presbyterian Homes, until her retirement. She enjoyed Bible Study groups, painting, needlework, scrabble and word games, and time spent with her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Don Wilkes; daughter, Linda Nash; son, Dan Wilkes; and brothers, John Zeman and Richard (Vi) Zeman.
Betty is survived by her son, Don Wilkes II; daughter, Laura (Jim) Moyer; daughter-in-law, Kim Wilkes; son-in-law, Rick Nash; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; brother, Jim (Fay) Zeman; and other family and friends.
A visitation will be held Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with a time of sharing at 12:30 PM, at The Peterson Chapel, 119 Central Ave, Buffalo, MN. Burial will follow at Mound Union Cemetery in Mound, MN.

We are so very saddened by the loss of Aunt Betty. She was a wonderful lady and will be missed by many. May she Rest In Peace, may you all find peace in your hearts.
I am James Zeman’s granddaughter.
Our deepest sympathies are with you all. You are all in my thoughts and my prayers.
My deepest sympathy.
“Having a grandmother is like having an army. This is a grandchild’s ultimate privilege: knowing that someone is on your side, always, whatever the details. Even when you are wrong. Especially then, in fact. A grandmother is both a sword and a shield.”
― Fredrik Backman, My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry
Grandma you are forever my sword and my shield, but also my compass. Even in my moments of weakness I need but be still and feel your love, for it will never leave me! I will never say goodbye for I know I will see you again. So, until that day please continue to watch over this family and help us all make you proud.
Sorry for the event, in lieu of her brother (Richard) which passed away 12/11/2017. We will all miss her very much. Goodbye and GOD bless. Jimmy
