Audrey Gloria Jensen, a remarkable woman whose life journey spanned nearly a century, has peacefully passed away on August 22, 2023. Born on October 25, 1926, in Bristol, England, Audrey was the beloved daughter of Reginald and Edna (Riggs) Thorne.

Audrey’s life was marked by her service to her country and her devotion to her family. During World War II, she answered the call of duty, bravely serving in the British Royal Navy from 1944 to 1946. It was during this time that fate intervened, leading her to encounter her true love, Jens Jensen, a young soldier serving in the United States Army. Their bond was forged amidst the trials of war, and their love would become an enduring example of devotion and companionship.

Audrey’s journey continued when she immigrated to the United States in October of 1946. She and Jens were united in marriage on November 10, 1946, at Wooddale Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park, MN.

Settling in Chicago, IL in 1947, Audrey and Jens welcomed the arrival of their daughters, Diane and Elaine, in 1948. Their family grew as they moved to Deephaven, MN in 1950, where they joyously welcomed daughter Karen in 1953 and son Stephen in 1960. Audrey along with Jens raised their family and created a warm and loving home.

In 1973, the family embarked on a new chapter, relocating to Denver, CO, where Audrey continued to cultivate a life filled with love and adventure. She held a deep affection for her homeland, frequently journeying back to England to reconnect with family and friends. Audrey’s passions were diverse. She had a special fondness for animals, particularly birds, and her garden flourished under her care as she lovingly nurtured flowers. Her culinary skills and love for cooking brought joy to family gatherings, and her talent for embroidery showcased her creativity.

Audrey’s legacy lives on through her cherished children: Diane Kadlac, Elaine Asmussen, and Stephen (Dawn) Jensen. She was a loving grandmother to eight grandchildren and a doting great-grandmother to twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, John Thorne; son-in-law, Randy Treihart; and a vast network of other family and friends both in the United States and England.

She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Jens, who preceded her in death in 2011, as well as her daughter Karen Treihart; sisters, Jean and Joy; and sons-in-law, Tom Kadlac and Steve Asmussen.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 2:00 PM with visitation one hour prior at The Peterson Chapel in St. Michael, MN. Interment to follow at Word of Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Rogers, MN.
