Arvilla “Billie” Klecker was born to Albert and Johanna Lang on December 15, 1938, in Harvey, North Dakota. She passed away on September 10, 2023, at the age of 84 from the many challenges later in life brought on by the disease of dementia.

Arvilla, with her older sister Delilah “Dee”, grew up on a farm outside of Anamoose, ND and moved to Harvey, ND when she was nine years old. Arvilla spent these years swimming in the Sheyenne River and earned a Junior Lifeguard certificate. She also helped clean the family-run cabins.

She graduated from Minot State College, Minot, North Dakota in 1964 with a BS degree in Elementary Education with minors in Art and Social Science. She taught in Mott, Crosby, Bismarck, and Minot, ND.

Arvilla met her husband Ron at the NoDak Racing Club in Minot, ND. On June 19, 1965, Ronald and Arvilla were united in marriage. They were blessed with two children: Veronica and Jayme.

Marriage and family life were Arvilla’s pride and joy. She taught her children’s CCD classes and was a Girl Scout leader for her daughter’s troop. She also enjoyed baking, cooking, and making special birthday meals for her children and grandkids. She loved making elaborate table settings for holidays and using the finest china. She was Ron, Jayme, and her grandkids Abby and Adam’s biggest soccer fan. She was also a huge fan of MN United FC and US Women’s soccer.

Retirement allowed for traveling with Ron in their camper, exploring the United States without a permanent residence for well over a year. This was a very enjoyable experience for them.

Art lived through her, where she incorporated home projects for her children, with this turning to scrapbooking with Roni, and then to coloring with friends at the Crow River Senior Center.

Arvilla kept busy with bowling, Red Hatters, family and senior trips, reading romance books, and watching Guiding Light and Jeopardy.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Johanna Lang; husband Ron Klecker; and sister Dee Laugsand.

Arvilla is survived by her children Veronica “Roni” (Mike) Kersch, Jayme (Michelle) Klecker, and her grandchildren Will, Tate, Abigail, and Adam.

Our family wishes to extend our thanks and appreciation to those that cared for Arvilla in the later years. They were able to see who she was despite her dementia. We ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Arvilla’s honor.

Memorial Service will be held Sunday, October 8, 2023 at 12:30 PM with visitation beginning at 11:00 AM at The Peterson Chapel (300 Main Street, St. Michael, MN). Inurnment will be held Friday, October 13, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan, ND.

I’m sorry for your family’s loss of Arvilla. Although I didn’t know her, she showed me kindness when I reached out to her to learn more about our shared family history a few years ago. Even though our correspondence was brief, she taught me a lot and I’m grateful for ‘meeting’ her. Prayers to your family
