Arnold J. Sluis passed away at Oasis Hospice in Buffalo. Arnold grew up on the family farm in Edgerton, MN. He entered the Army from 1954 to 1956 as a radio engineer. He farmed until he was 41 then decided to go to college. He received a BA in philosophy from the University of MN and a MSW degree from the University of Minnesota Duluth. He worked as a social worker in Iowa and Minnesota. While in Iowa, he met his wife of 34 years, Janet. The couple lived in Maple Lake for 21 years before moving to Buffalo.

Arnold is survived by his loving wife Jan, brother Raymond Sluis of Salsulito, CA, brother and sister-in-law Bill and Helen Sluis of Edgerton, MN and sister-in-law Nellie Sluis, Tampa, FL, many nieces and nephews. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, William and Cora Sluis and brother Virgil Sluis.

When Arnie was a young man on the farm, he loved to spend time on his ham radio. He built his own gyro-copter, had his pilot’s license and loved to downhill ski. He had a passion for running and biking around different parts of the country. He loved traveling with his wife in their motor home.

His latest passion was using the internet to expand his interests and ideas on social injustices here and around the world. He will be greatly missed by those whose life he touched. In honor of Arnie’s memory, take a moment today and do something kind for someone who could use it. Private arrangements have been made.
