Arlene Francis Hanly, age 75, of St. Michael, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2015. She was born March 15, 1940 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Joseph and Margery (Morrissette) Breyen. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at Ascension Catholic Church.

On November 26, 1960, Arlene Francis Breyen and Daniel William Hanly Jr. were united in Holy Matrimony at Ascension Catholic Church in Minneapolis by Father Coates. The two were blessed with seven healthy children.

Arlene’s main job at life was being a wonderful mother to her seven children. When the children were younger, she was involved with their activities by being a Cub Scout leader, Brownies leader and also helped lead the 4-H club. Arlene has always been involved with her church through the choir and other ministries. When the children got older, she went back to college to earn an Associates Degree, and began an accounting career with Dura Supreme. Most recently she worked at and retired from the Animal Humane Society before moving to St. Michael in 2001.

Arlene was a charter member of the Crow River Senior Center (CRSC). She served on the Advisory Committee since it started in 2011, Ditch Clean-Up aka “Dash for Trash” (as Arlene liked to call it) for five years and had anxiously awaited our very own Adopt-A-Highway sign–check out the sign on Hwy 241 near 3rd St NW.

Arlene obtained her certification in tax preparation so that she could help others in the community with filing their taxes. She also enjoyed volunteering her accounting and bookkeeping skills for CRSC by maintaining the financials for the past several years. At St. Michael Catholic Church, she has served on the Parish Council and helped the Eucharistic Adoration Ministry grow by encouraging others to come to adoration on a regular basis. She enjoyed gardening, barbering, sewing, embroidery, singing, running, and crafting – she has made many family rosaries, wedding dresses, and bridesmaid dresses. Her children will always remember sharing stories and laughter around the table while enjoying her traditional Sunday dinner.

She will be dearly loved and missed by her sons and daughters-in-law, Brian (Laura) Hanly, Tom (Liz) Hanly; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie (Jack) Knaeble, Pam (Scott) Onnen, Danielle (Kevin) Pregler, Jennifer (Dave) Anderson; grandchildren, Brad, Kelli, Christopher, Amy, Tabatha, Heather, Jessie, Kim, Lisette, Mary, Michael, Maria, Martin, Shannon, Jason, Stacy, Carly; great-grandchildren, Chase, Kylie, Tyler, J.J., Adam, Lyric, Lilley; sister, Carol Nevett; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Preceded in death by her husband, Daniel W. Hanly Jr.; mother, Margery Breyen; father, Joseph Breyen; son, Patrick W. Hanly; and sister, Marion Peterson.

Arlene will be deeply missed. She touched many lives. When you drive by the now existing Adopt-A-Highway sign for the Crow River Senior Center please think of Arlene Hanly and give her a nod for her special place in Heaven.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2015 from 4 to 8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 2, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael. Father Peter Richards will be the Celebrant.
Casket Bearers are Brian Hanly, Tom Hanly, Bradley Hanly, Christopher Hanly, Michael Onnen, Martin Onnen, and Jason Anderson. Honorary Casket Bearer is Patrick Hanly.

Interment at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery in Osseo, MN.
