Ardis (Goslar) Schommer
Ardis was the daughter of Josie (Thompson) Schoneman and born on December 30, 1926. She was adopted by her maternal grandparents, Ora and Ida Thompson. She attended Canby High School. Ardis was married to Frank Goslar on September 19, 1942, and they were married for 61 years. Ardis married Valentine Schommer on July 10, 2004, and they were married for 9 years.
Ardis’ calling in life was to be the best mother she could be for her six children. She spent many years working outside the home to help support her family. Ardis worked six and a half years at the Marshall Produce, one year as a cook in the Ivanhoe Hospital and twenty-four years as a nurse’s aide for the Canby Community Hospital. She was the first Home Health Nurse for Canby and did this in addition to her nurse’s aide job for about a year and a half. Ardis retired at the age of 65.
Ardis lived most of her life in Porter; she was involved in the American Legion Auxiliary, Church Women of the ELCA, and Senior Citizens. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting for missions at church and the family, embroidering, crafts of various kinds, baking, cooking; and, decorating and fixing up her home and cabin. Ardis loved to spend time with her family, when they all lived at home and also when they left home and their families grew! She made beautiful afghans for her children and grandchildren; and, many relatives and friends received these precious gifts, too. Ardis made beautiful embroidered items that she gave to her family and friends. She also enjoyed journaling and writing about family memories. Ardis was a kind, loving, and thoughtful person who found joy in making others happy.
Ardis spent seven years of her life in Mission, Texas, after getting married to Valentine Schommer. In 2011, they moved to Albertville, Minnesota to be closer to family. Ardis enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Cottages of Albertville where she lived, Church of St. Albert where she went to church, and the Crow River Senior Center where Ardis participated in Writer’s Group, Joy Stitch Club, Dominoes, Whist, and Euchre. She was surrounded by people who loved her dearly; and, she was blessed to live a very comfortable and happy life in her later years.
Ardis is survived by four children: LaNetta (Virgil) VanDale, Rhonda (Thomas) Bates, Zelda Goslar, and Laureen (Glenn) Hinders. Ardis had fourteen grandchildren: Gregory, Kevin (Jeanne) and Mark VanDale; Berenice (Miguel) Venegas and Sean Goslar; Michael (Katherine) Bates, Leanne (Chris) Snyder, and Matthew Bates; and Stacey, Laura, O’Dell, Gordon, Russell and Lauretta Hinders. Ardis had many great-grandchildren.

To LaNetta and Family,
Ardis was a beautiful lady, and so kind. Our son Eric Smith was blessed when he married Teri and was lucky to get to know her over the years. Our hearts go you to you all. You’re in our prayers. May God take her into his loving arms.
Ardis was a friend to everyone. I do not know of anyone at the St Michael Senior Center who crossed paths with her that did not like her. Who would not like her positive attitude? She was a very spiffy dresser and enjoyed looking beautiful. I have been blessed to know her and to call her my friend.
LaNetta,
I am so sorry for your loss. This afternoon when I saw you I had no idea your mom had just passed away. Please accept my sympathies!
