Visitation Information

Wold, Amazette (Wilson) age 83, of St. Michael, MN, passed away August 6, 2009 after a nearly 2-year battle with cancer. She was born on July 4, 1926 to Henry and Anna (Gilbert) Wilson on a farm near Elgin, IA. She attended rural schools in Northeast Iowa and Southeast Minnesota. She graduated from Rushford High School in 1944. The following year she attended Winona Business College and was employed by the J.R. Watkins Co. in Winona. Here she did office work and eventually worked for one of the Vice Presidents who was in charge of purchasing for the company. She and her husband-to-be, Earl Wold, met the first day they attended Rushford High School in 1940. They were married at the Rushford Lutheran Church on June 6, 1948. When her husband entered the Air Force in 1951, she followed him to Albuquerque, NM. Here she was employed by a building contractor doing office work. She then applied for employment at Sandia Corporation on Sandia Base in Albuquerque. This position required a “Q” clearance, the next step above Top Secret, in order for her to work in this sensitive area. She was investigated by the FBI and was accepted. In 1953, she followed her husband when he was transferred to Langley Air Force base near Hampton, VA. Here she was hired to be office manager for the (ASC) Agriculture and Stabilization Committee serving 3 counties. She dealt with managing acreage allotments for tobacco and peanuts and arranged for surplus wheat storage in Navy moth ball ships anchored in the James River. Upon return to Minnesota in 1955, she found employment with a stock broker in St. Paul, but eventually found employment with the Immigration and Naturalization Service. She worked in the regional office with the person in charge of budgeting for the Northwest US and Alaska for 14 years. When her daughter was born in 1970 she elected to be a stay-at-home mom. Her mother suffered a crippling stroke shortly thereafter and Amazette became her caregiver for 12 years. Amazette is survived by her husband of 61 years, Earl Wold; one daughter, Kimberly (Rob) Zwart and one granddaughter, Anna Grace; along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings, Harris, Bernice, Carmen and Curtis Wilson. Funeral service 3:00 PM Monday, Word of Peace Lutheran Church in Rogers, MN. Visitation at the funeral home on Sunday 5 till 8 PM. Further visitation at the church on Monday one hour prior to services.
