Alvin Joseph William Welch, age 81 of Buffalo. He was born June 18, 1941 and passed away at home with his wife and daughter at his side on June 18, 2022.

Al graduated from International Falls High School with the class of 1959. He enlisted in the US Air Force and served until 1967. While enlisted, he served in Laon, France, where he met the love of his life, Colette Venet. The two were married on April 10, 1965 and were blessed with two children: Nathalie and Anthony. Al and Colette enjoyed 57 wonderful years together, raising their family and enjoying many travels.

Al loved his family and was always available to help with any fix-it project. Papa Joe was a big supporter of his grandsons, attending many school and sporting events. He was a craftsman, making many beautiful cribbage boards in his retirement.

He is preceded in death by his son, Anthony; parents, George and Margaret; infant sister, Doris; and brother, LeRoy.

Al is survived by his loving wife, Colette; daughter, Nathalie (David); grandsons, Daniel (Jessica), Matthew, Steven; great-granddaughter, Riley; sisters, Darlene Carlson, Janice (John) Ludwig; brother-in-law, Jean-Pierre Venet; sisters-in-law, Jacqueline Shaw, Ginette (Dennis) Cravoisier, Penny Welch; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 17, 2022 at 2:00 PM, with visitation one hour prior, at The Peterson Chapel, 119 Central Avenue, Buffalo, MN. A private family interment with Military Rites will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

    Colette, I’m so sorry to hear about Al. My deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family. He was a wonderful person and I always enjoyed his great smile and good humor. Rest in peace Al.
