Alfred “Alfie” Mohring age 87, of Montrose passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Parkview Care Center in Buffalo.

He was born on September 1, 1923 in Woodland Township, Wright County the son of Oggie & Elsie Mumm Mohring.

Alfie graduated from Montrose High School.

On September 26, 1950, Alfred A Mohring & Lucille E. Weeklund. God blessed their marriage with four children.

Alfred engaged in dairy farming with his brother Clinton and later worked at Mid America Dairy.

He was a faithful member of The United Methodist Church in Montrose where he served many years as a lay leader. Alfie also served fifty three years on The Montrose Fire Department, many of those years as its’ treasurer.

Through the years, Alfie was involved with Montrose Days, Boy Scouts, Montrose Planning & Zoning and formerly served on The Montrose School Board. Alfred received The Commodore Award from The Minneapolis Aquatennial Committee.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Alfie also was the “top chef” at the hunting shack. He enjoyed flowers, especially raising tulips.

Survived by his children: Allan (Jackie) Mohring of St. Paul, Paul (Linda) Mohring of Brooklyn Center & Linda (Raymond) Marquette of Buffalo; grandchildren: Jessica (Lee) Reinhart and Erik Marquette; great grandchildren: Hunter Reinhart & baby Reinhart; a sister: Clara “Birdie” Hickman; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his wife: Lucille Mohring, a son: Dale, parents & three siblings: Mildred Lenz, Clinton Mohring & Jeanette “Jo” Anderson.

Funeral services for Alfred Mohring were held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 23rd at The Montrose United Methodist Church. Reverend Ingrid Bloom officiated. Interment followed at Kreidler Cemetery in rural Montrose.

A visitation was held on Friday, July 22nd at the church from 5-8 P.M.

Honorary Casket Bearers were Mike Marketon, Willie Bauernschmitt, Roger Vanderlinde.

Casket Bearers were Jim Hickman, Bill Hickman, Mike Hickman, Bruce Anderson, Denny Butcher and John Kanduth.

Memorials are preferred to the Montrose United Methodist Church.

The Peterson Chapel of Buffalo served the family.
